Winter memories

Baby Celeste and her adopted father Old Jim and the Two-Spirit Long Lance. Celeste kept close to Old Jim but looked to Long Lance as a father figure as well. He taught her some Lakota and Cheyenne wisdom but not all and not enough to be considered immersed. Long Lance disapproved of Celeste’s decision to leave for Missouri with Nathaniel and was vocal about it until Jim insisted.

When the story begins, Celeste hasn’t seen Long Lance or Jim for 4 years.
